2018 MX-5 50th Anniversary Edition 2-Dr Convertible
50th Anniversary Edition

As you browse options for 2018 MX-5 specs, you will notice a unique offering for this year: the 2018 Mazda MX-5 50th Anniversary Limited Edition. This version of the popular MX-5 celebrates Mazda’s 50th anniversary in Canada and is the automaker’sway of honoring the strong relationship it has formed with drivers in the country. This Limited-Edition model is based on the GS trim, but has its own flair and unique features to set it apart from other 2-DR convertible offerings.

Enhanced Audio

To say that the audio in the 2018 Mazda MX-5 50th Anniversary Limited Edition is enhanced is an understatement. While the MX-5 GS already has an impressive sound system, it cannot compare to that of the 50th Anniversary version. This custom Bose system is unlike anything you will find in another 2-DR convertibles, with speakers as well as a subwoofer within the headrests for the driver and passenger. Now you can truly experience the music, even when you have the soft top open.

Round out the entertainment system with the same 7-inch color touchscreen and MAZDA CONNECT infotainment found in the rest of the MX-5 specs. This includes HD radio, a CD player with MP3 functionality, voice-activated navigation, the HMI Commander Switch, Aha and Stitcher internet radio, two USB ports, and an auxiliary audio jack. You also get SMS text message audio for both delivery and reply.

2-DR Convertible Unique Style

The Mazda MX-5 GS 2-DR convertible is already stylish with its black cloth soft-folding top, power-operated mirrors in piano black, and LED rear combination lights, headlights, signature lighting, and daytime running lights. The 50th Anniversary Limited Edition; however, stands out with its BBS 17-inch forged alloy wheels, complete with a dark finish for a sporty look that is truly unique.

Guaranteed Comfort

Driving around in the 2018 Mazda MX-5 50th Anniversary Limited Edition will give you plenty of comfort with the black cloth upholstery and stylish red stitching, adjustable heated seats, 6-way adjustment for the driver and 4-way adjustment for the passenger. As you drive, your hands will rest on the leather-wrapped shift knob, steering wheel, and parking brake handle.

Powertrain

Just like with the other MX-5 specs, the Anniversary Limited Edition uses the SKYACTIV-G 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine to give you 155 horsepower and 148 pound-feet. Thanks to the nearly perfect weight distribution of the MX-5, each horsepower goes further, giving you a superb driving experience.

Get To Know The 2018 Mazda6 Trims

2018 Mazda6 Turbo
The 2018 Mazda6 Turbo

With new 2018 Mazda6 models available, as well as the exciting Mazda6 turbo powertrain, drivers need a quick refresher on what sets the different models apart. There are four trim levels to choose from, the GS, GS-L, GT, and Signature.

Engines

The engine that the Mazda6 specs include depends on the model you choose. The Mazda6 GS and GS-L both use the SKYACTIV-G 2.5-liter engine that now includes Cylinder Deactivation. This powertrain generates 187 horsepower and 186 pound-feet of torque. It only needs 9.1 L/100 km in the city and 6.7 on the highway.

Opting for the GT or Signature trims will give you the new Mazda6 turbo engine, a SKYACTIV-G 2.5-liter 4-cylinder featuring Dynamic Pressure Turbo. This engine produces 250 horsepower with 93 octane fuel or 227 horsepower with 87 octane fuel. It always generates 310 pound-feet of torque. Fuel economy is 10 L/100 km for city driving and 7.5 on the highway.

GS

Starting off the 2018 Mazda6 lineup is the GS trim level. Although this is the base trim, there is nothing entry level about it, including the premium feel for the interior. Enjoy automatic dual-zone climate controls and an 8-inch touchscreen in color for MAZDA CONNECT. The exterior features 17-inch alloy wheels with a high lustre in dark gray, LED rear combination taillights and LED headlights, and a chrome finish on the tailpipe finisher. In addition, the mesh front grille and rear bumpers are redesigned.

GS-L

The Mazda6 reviews of the GS-L praise this trim for adding even more luxury to the GS, hence the “L” in the name. It includes leather upholstery, a heated steering wheel, and 10-way power adjustment plus lumbar support for the driver. Enjoy advanced keyless entry, a power-operated glass moonroof, and a front wiper deicer.

This trim has all the safety features you could want, including Mazda Radar Cruise Control with Stop & Go, the High Beam Control System, and the Distance Recognition Support System. You also getForward Obstruction Warning, Pedestrian Detection, Smart Brake Support, the Lane-Keep Assist System, and Lane Departure Warning System.

GT Mazda6 Turbo

Moving up to the 2018 Mazda6 GT builds on the features of the GS-L, enhancing the exterior with 19-inch alloy wheels and signature lighting for both the front headlamps and taillamps. The interior features include navigation, ventilated front seats, SiriusXM Satellite Radio, and Bose audio with 11 speakers. You also get an Adaptive Front-Lighting System and the Active Driving Display projected onto the windshield in colour.

Signature

The new Signature trim for the Mazda6 is the top-of-the-line model and will make you feel as if you are in a high-end luxury vehicle. Enjoy materials like Nappa leather upholstery and trims in Sen wood and Ultrasuede. You get an extra gauge cluster featuring a 7-inch LCD display. To help you stay safe, this trim adds the Top View Monitor and parking sensors in both the front and rear. Inside, you will also notice black roof lining and a frameless auto-dimming rearview mirror.

No matter the 2018 Mazda6 trim level you end up selecting, you will be in for a treat. With four options to choose from, including the Mazda6 turbo, there is a configuration for everyone.

Exploring The Standard And Available Safety Technologies Of The CX-5

2018 CX-5 Pedestrian Detection Safety Technologies
Pedestrian Detection Safety Technolgies

When you start to shop for the 2018 Mazda CX-5, you will want to be aware of the various safety technologies and driver assistive technologies that help you stay safe and make driving easier. The CX-5 price already includes multiple features standard, such as the rearview camera, Advanced Blind Spot Monitoring System, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, and Smart City Brake Support. Take a closer look at these and the optional CX-5 specs to see why the CX-5 is a great buy for those who value safety.

Safety Technologies

Advanced Blind Spot Monitoring System and Rear Cross Traffic Alert

A standard feature included in the CX-5 price, the Advanced Blind Spot Monitoring System and Rear Cross Traffic Alert systems work together. The first of these detects objects in your blind spots to either side, letting you know before a quick-moving vehicle actually enters your blind spot. The latter alerts you about vehicles coming from the side as you back up.

Smart City Brake Support

This standard feature detects objects in front of you at speeds between four and 30 kilometers per hour. If it detects an object, it will prepare your CX-5 by moving the brake pads so they are closer to the brake disc. Then, if you don’t react in time, the system will automatically apply your brakes.

Smart Brake Support

Smart Brake Support reduces the severity of collisions or avoids them completely, working when you are driving at a minimum of 16 kilometers per hour. It will first warn you of the collision then apply the brakes if you do not react in time.

Pedestrian Detection

The available Pedestrian Detection gets high praise on CX-5 reviews, working with Smart City Brake Support and Smart Brake Support. This system detects pedestrians and stops you if you do not respond to the warning. It can even detect pedestrians when going between ten and 80 kilometers per hour.

Forward Obstruction Warning

With the Forward Obstruction Warning system, your 2018 Mazda CX-5 detects vehicles in front of you and lets you know about a collision risk with enough time for you to take action. It will ideally prevent the need for other systems to engage.

Lane-Keep Assist System

While some systems just keep the auto between the lines, leading to an unnatural-feeling tug on your steering wheel, the CX-5’s system feels more natural. It takes your intention into account, helping to ease you into lane changes and turns. There is also a Lane Departure Warning System that senses lane markings and lets you know if you are accidentally drifting out.

Mazda Radar Cruise Control

The Mazda Radar Cruise Control system offered on the CX-5 SUV includes Stop and Go Function. It judges your relative distance to and the speed of the car in front of you, including as slow as zero km/hour, ensuring you keep a safe following distance. Starting up again is under your control for safety reasons. This feature is further complemented by the Distance Recognition Support System that measures the distance separating your CX-5 and the auto in front of you, recommending a safe and comfortable following distance.

Traffic Sign Recognition System

This available system in the Mazda CX-5 relies on cameras to read signs on the road, including stop signs, do not enter, and speed limits. The information then appears on your colour Active Driving Display so your eyes can stay on the road.

With so many safety technologies to watch your back in the 2018 Mazda CX-5, you should be able to handle traffic jams or vehicles that seem to come out of nowhere with confidence, protecting you and your family.

The CX-5 doesn’t stop with ensuring the driver’s comfort. Each passenger seat is thoughtfully designed for your riding pleasure. Just because it is a compact SUV doesn’t mean that it can’t be comfortable.

Mazda CX-5 - All New For 2017

Mazda CX-5 Review

The CX-5 has three trim levels from which to choose. Many features are standard across all trim levels, but there are some that are available only on certain trims. The available trims are GX, GS, and GT. The body is designed to be attractive, have curb appeal, and be aerodynamic. Even the paint is specially formulated to enhance every line on the CX-5. Mazda’s exclusive KODO “Soul of Motion” design brings art to life with visual expressions of energy. Mazda seeks to connect its cars with people’s emotions, presenting vehicles that speak to the individual driver. This enables the driver and the car to be in complete harmony with oneanother.

Mazda CX-5 Performance Features

The heart of the Mazda CX-5 is its drive train, with the GS and GT powered by the SKYACTIV 2.5-liter engine. This powertrain couples with an automatic transmission and your choice of front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. This dynamic combination will achieve a fuel mileage of 9.8L/100km in the city and 7.7L/100km on the highway with the FWD and 10.2 city/8.3 highway L/100km on the AWD.

The available i-ACTIV AWD protects you when driving in adverse weather conditions. When the weather is iffy, road conditions can vary from dry to wet to icy in no time. The i-ACTIV system monitors temperature changes, braking patterns, and speed changes to predict when to shift from front-wheel drive to all-wheel drive as needed. You may never be aware of when this change takes place, which is Mazda’s intent. While you focus on your driving, Mazda focuses on making your driving experience as safe as possible.

Mazda CX-5 Interior Features

Moving to the interior, you’ll appreciate the Active Driving Display that projects your speed, route direction, and vehicle status onto the lower portion of the windshield in your direct line of sight. While not obscuring your view of the road ahead, it does help to minimize the distraction of having to glance down at the speedometer. More than 250 enhancements have been incorporated into the 2017 Mazda CX-5. Included in these are a quieter cabin and the available metal wood trim that adds a touch of luxury to the interior. Everyone will appreciate the generous access room that makes getting in and out of the car so easy. The available front and rear-heated seats will ensure everyone’s comfort in chilly weather, and the rear air conditioning vents will add comfort on hot days.

You’ll find plenty of room to stash all your traveling necessities in the glove box, center console bin, overhead console with its holder for sunglasses, pockets in both front doors, and cup/bottle holders in both the front and back. Both front seats are manually adjustable on the GX trim, but the driver’s seat is power adjustable on the GS and GT trim levels. The front passenger’s seat remains manually adjustable on all three trims. The rear seats recline for maximum relaxing comfort. The rear seat also features a 40/20/40 split fold-down to increase the rear cargo capacity. The GS and GT trims also feature a leather-wrapped steering wheel and gearshift.

Mazda CX-5 Technologies

You will enjoy your favorite music through the available Bose® speaker system. Stay connected with the Bluetooth® hands-free phone capability and the MAZDA CONNECT infotainment system. Available in the MAZDA CONNECT are Stitcher™ and Sirius XM™ satellite radio, an emergency 911 system, and SMS text messaging. There are two USB audio ports and two USB charging ports in both the front and the rear seating areas. The steering wheel-mounted audio controls make it simple for the driver to adjust the volume of the music.

The front air bags, front side air bags, and side curtain air bags will help to protect you in case of a collision. The frame is strengthened with side-impact beams in the doors. A rearview camera assists in backing up safely. Other safety features include anti-lock brakes, lane departure warning, traction control, advanced blind spot monitoring with rear cross traffic alert, and a ring structure unibody construction.

Mazda CX-5 Price

All three trim levels are priced at under $35,000, making them affordable for nearly every budget. The base GX trim is just under $25,000, easily putting it within reach.

Mazda CX-5 Comparison Of The 2016 To The 2017

Most changes are subtle, but the engine compartment is somewhat longer. The taillights and headlights are slightly longer and narrower. The 2017’s interior is better streamlined and adds more chrome for a classier appearance. The rear seats now have a two-stage reclining adjustment and may be heated. Cabin noise has been reduced by 1.3 dB, making conversation easier. An upgraded steering wheel is a bonus for the driver.
