With new 2018 Mazda6 models available, as well as the exciting Mazda6 turbo powertrain, drivers need a quick refresher on what sets the different models apart. There are four trim levels to choose from, the GS, GS-L, GT, and Signature.
Engines
The engine that the Mazda6 specs include depends on the model you choose. The Mazda6 GS and GS-L both use the SKYACTIV-G 2.5-liter engine that now includes Cylinder Deactivation. This powertrain generates 187 horsepower and 186 pound-feet of torque. It only needs 9.1 L/100 km in the city and 6.7 on the highway.
Opting for the GT or Signature trims will give you the new Mazda6 turbo engine, a SKYACTIV-G 2.5-liter 4-cylinder featuring Dynamic Pressure Turbo. This engine produces 250 horsepower with 93 octane fuel or 227 horsepower with 87 octane fuel. It always generates 310 pound-feet of torque. Fuel economy is 10 L/100 km for city driving and 7.5 on the highway.
GS
Starting off the 2018 Mazda6 lineup is the GS trim level. Although this is the base trim, there is nothing entry level about it, including the premium feel for the interior. Enjoy automatic dual-zone climate controls and an 8-inch touchscreen in color for MAZDA CONNECT. The exterior features 17-inch alloy wheels with a high lustre in dark gray, LED rear combination taillights and LED headlights, and a chrome finish on the tailpipe finisher. In addition, the mesh front grille and rear bumpers are redesigned.
GS-L
The Mazda6 reviews of the GS-L praise this trim for adding even more luxury to the GS, hence the “L” in the name. It includes leather upholstery, a heated steering wheel, and 10-way power adjustment plus lumbar support for the driver. Enjoy advanced keyless entry, a power-operated glass moonroof, and a front wiper deicer.
This trim has all the safety features you could want, including Mazda Radar Cruise Control with Stop & Go, the High Beam Control System, and the Distance Recognition Support System. You also getForward Obstruction Warning, Pedestrian Detection, Smart Brake Support, the Lane-Keep Assist System, and Lane Departure Warning System.
GT Mazda6 Turbo
Moving up to the 2018 Mazda6 GT builds on the features of the GS-L, enhancing the exterior with 19-inch alloy wheels and signature lighting for both the front headlamps and taillamps. The interior features include navigation, ventilated front seats, SiriusXM Satellite Radio, and Bose audio with 11 speakers. You also get an Adaptive Front-Lighting System and the Active Driving Display projected onto the windshield in colour.
Signature
The new Signature trim for the Mazda6 is the top-of-the-line model and will make you feel as if you are in a high-end luxury vehicle. Enjoy materials like Nappa leather upholstery and trims in Sen wood and Ultrasuede. You get an extra gauge cluster featuring a 7-inch LCD display. To help you stay safe, this trim adds the Top View Monitor and parking sensors in both the front and rear. Inside, you will also notice black roof lining and a frameless auto-dimming rearview mirror.
No matter the 2018 Mazda6 trim level you end up selecting, you will be in for a treat. With four options to choose from, including the Mazda6 turbo, there is a configuration for everyone.
